- The deadbolt no longer lines up with the strike plate. This means the hinges are wearing or the door has settled. It’s not just an annoyance. If the bolt doesn’t throw fully, you’ve lost real security and the lock mechanism is fighting itself every time you use it.
- You hear wind whistling around the weatherstripping even after you replace it. That’s a frame alignment issue, not a weatherstrip issue. The seal can only compress so far. If the frame is racked, no strip will fix it.

A Therma-Tru door slab is a two-person lift, and the wrong move with a hinge mortise or a threshold screw strip means you’re ordering a part twice. If you want to check something yourself before calling, look at the sweep, the weatherstrip, and the threshold cap. See if the screws are tight, if the strip is flattened, if the cap is cracked. Those are safe to inspect.
What we don’t recommend doing yourself is pulling the slab off the hinges to swap a threshold, or trying to re-shim a frame that’s binding.
